(Memphis 1/24/11) 20-year-old Shakara Dickens now faces first first degree murder charges in connection with disappearance of her infant daughter.
Dickens first reported her daughter Lauryn missing back in September. Lauryn was just nine months old at the time.
Dickens told police that she had given Lauryn to a woman who claimed to have been sent by Lauryn's father who was in jail at the time. The father denied sending anyone to pick up the baby, or even knowing anyone matching the description of the woman Dickens gave police. Investigators say they haven't found any evidence to support Dickens' story. Lauryn Dickens is still missing.
Police originally arrested Shakara Dickens on aggravated child abuse charges two weeks after her daughter went missing. It is not clear what new evidence was presented to a grand jury that led the panel to indict Dickens for murder.
She remains in the Shelby County Jail in lieu of $4,000,000 bail.
