KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. — Police have started a search near Kirkland Lake, Ont., for the remains of Katherine May Wilson, a 12-year-old girl who was abducted and murdered in 1970.
Ontario Provincial Police say they expect it will take two weeks to look for Wilson's remains in Morrisette Township, north of Kirkland Lake.
The girl went missing in October, 1970 and the case went unsolved for nearly four decades until January when provincial police arrested Barry Manion, 61, of London, Ont.
In March, Manion pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole for 10 years.
He died in prison a few days later.
Court had heard that Manion had sexual contact with Wilson several times in the year leading up to her murder.
